Create Safety for Insight

Safety, Pleasure, and Coming Home to Yourself

Hi Reader,

🌿 If intimacy or pleasure has felt… complicated

If part of you wants closeness…
but another part of you pulls away…

If pleasure feels distant…
or your body doesn’t respond the way you wish it would…

I want to gently offer this:

Nothing is wrong with you.

Your body isn’t broken.

It learned how to protect you.

And that protection—
as frustrating as it can feel—
is actually deep intelligence.

This month, I shared a video and a meditation exploring this exact experience:

  • 🎥 Why intimacy feels hard after hurt
  • 🌙 A meditation for when pleasure feels distant

And together, they point to something really important:

Desire and protection can exist at the same time.

🧠 Why this happens (in simple terms)

After hurt—whether relational, emotional, or sexual—

your mind may still want connection…

but your body begins scanning for safety.

This can show up as:

  • pulling away during closeness
  • feeling numb or disconnected
  • tension in your body
  • wanting intimacy but not being able to “drop in”

And this is where confusion begins.

Because it feels like a contradiction…

But it’s not.

👉 It’s information.

Your body is saying:
"I remember something… and I’m trying to keep you safe."

🌈 A note for Pride Month

For many people in the LGBTQ+ community, this experience can be layered.

Not because of who you are—
but because of what you may have moved through.

Things like:

  • feeling unseen or misunderstood
  • navigating identity in environments that didn’t feel safe
  • internalized messages about your body, desire, or expression
  • relational wounds or experiences where your “no” wasn’t honored

These don’t have to be extreme to matter.

Even subtle experiences can shape how safe your body feels.

So if intimacy, pleasure, or connection feels complicated…

it makes sense.

And this month especially, I want to honor this truth:

🏳️‍🌈 You deserve to experience connection, pleasure, and safety in your body—on your terms.

🌱 What actually helps (this is the shift)

Most people try to “fix” this by:

  • pushing through
  • trying harder
  • analyzing it more

But here’s the truth:

Pressure moves you further away from intimacy.

Because:

Intimacy doesn’t respond to pressure.
It responds to safety.

Instead, what helps is:

1. Noticing your body (without judgment)
Start with awareness:

  • Where do I feel tension?
  • Where do I feel distance?
  • Is there even 5% of ease somewhere?

2. Naming the experience gently
Instead of:
“What’s wrong with me?”

Try:
“I’m noticing my body pulling back.”

That shift builds trust.

3. Moving at your body’s pace
Not your expectations.
Not your partner’s timeline.
Not what you think should happen.

👉 Your body softens through permission, not pressure.

4. Looking for small moments
Healing doesn’t usually look like breakthroughs.

It looks like:

  • slightly less tension
  • staying present 10 seconds longer
  • noticing instead of shutting down

And those moments matter deeply.

🌙 A gentle practice you can return to

In the meditation, we don’t try to create pleasure.

We create space.

Space to:

  • notice your body
  • feel supported
  • connect with small sensations
  • allow safety to grow slowly

Because:

Pleasure often returns when it feels safe to exist.

✍️ Reflection Prompts (for this month)

You can journal, reflect, or just sit with these:

1. When I think about intimacy or pleasure, what does my body do?
(Tighten, go quiet, disconnect, soften…)

2. What part of me wants connection right now?
And what part of me feels unsure?

3. When have I felt even 5% safe in my body?
What was different in that moment?

4. What would it look like to go 10% slower with myself?

5. What messages have I learned about pleasure or intimacy?
Are they mine—or something I absorbed?

📄 Your Free Worksheet

I created a gentle reflection worksheet to go with this video + meditation.

It’s not about fixing anything.

It’s a space to:

  • understand your body’s responses
  • explore your relationship with intimacy and pleasure
  • begin building trust within yourself

👉 You can download it here:

🌿 If you need a place to begin

Start here:

  • Watch the video to understand what’s happening
  • Try the meditation when you’re ready
  • Use the worksheet to reflect

And most importantly—

go gently.

🤍 Closing

Healing intimacy—
healing pleasure—
isn’t about becoming someone different.

It’s about creating enough safety…

for who you already are
to begin to open.

And whether this month brings up pride, grief, confusion, longing, or clarity…

All of it belongs.

All of it is welcome.

And you don’t have to rush any of it.

Hi Reader, For many people, feeling disconnected from the body can happen slowly over time. Stress, trauma, anxiety, burnout, relationship challenges, or simply moving too fast can create distance between the mind and body. A guided pleasure meditation can offer a gentle way to reconnect with sensation without pressure, expectation, or performance. Reconnecting with pleasure is not about forcing yourself to feel something. It is about creating enough safety for your nervous system to soften...

Hi Reader, Have you ever wanted intimacy, connection, or pleasure—but noticed your body tensing up, shutting down, or emotionally disconnecting instead? If so, you're not alone. Many people assume something is wrong with them when pleasure feels difficult to access. But often, the issue isn't a lack of desire—it's a nervous system that's trying to protect you. Your body is constantly scanning for safety. If past experiences taught your nervous system that closeness felt overwhelming,...

INTIMA: July 2026 Create Safety for Insight When Healing Feels Quiet: Learning to Trust the Slow Return of Connection Hi Reader Opening Reflection There’s a particular kind of loneliness that can happen during healing — the kind that appears when things are technically “getting better,” but your body still doesn’t fully believe it yet. Maybe conversations are softer now. Maybe conflict doesn’t escalate the way it used to. Maybe closeness has begun to return in small, fragile moments. And yet…...
